My-Day Friday #1: It's Not that Confusing!

I think it's so hilarious how one word can spark a memory and come back to life. As my sister and I are in Walmart the other night, a single word was said and it instantly turned into song.

"Confuseled"

Well that ignited us both into song throughout the store!

"A Heffalump or Woozle is very confusel. The Heffalump or woosel is very sly 

- sly - sly - sly"

Singing about confusing Heffalumps and Woozles, can you imagine? We continued warning the patrons around the women's department.

"Beware Beware Be a very wary bear

If honey is what you covet you'll find that they love it 

Because they guzzle up the thing you prize"

But, alas, they were too confuseled to heed our warnings.

My sister and I love singing songs in the store. We've done it so much that it's actually integrated into our very beings... We don't even think about it, we just do it like a normal person would start a conversation!

If only my other sister were with us that night, we would have had a chorus!

Singing is one of my fondest memories growing up with my sisters. We used to take our Disney and Veggie Tales tapes and turn on the caps; fast forwarding and rewinding for hours until we learned all the lyrics by heart. Then we'd act them out when we'd go outside to play on our bikes.

Yeah, singing and riding bikes at the same time equaled best time of my life! That, and I could ride standing up on one pedal. I felt like Supergirl, soaring in the air. Sometimes, I'd extend my other leg to look like an Ice Skater gliding on the smooth (though bumpy) surface.

Those were the days!

Whenever we do sing fun tunes in the store, it reminds me of when I was a kid, and it lets me be a kid again for a few minutes. Releasing that joy and freedom.
It also draws me and my sisters closer (no matter how awful we actually sound!) and keeps us in sync.

It's also just good laughter. And we all know that is medicine to your soul! {Proverbs 17:22 NLT}

Heffalumps and Woozles? Yeah, not so confuseling afterall. ;)

Lord, You Don't Need Us?

Lord, You Want Us!

I was rummaging through some YouTube videos that I had saved on my watch for later list and came across a song I had never heard before. I instantly liked it, a lot! I'm not into rap music, it's just not my cup of milk, but this one I really really liked!

As I was listening to the lyrics again last night something caught my attention.

"Redeemed us, He cleaned us, purchased and then freed us,

 All this work but Lord, you don't need us."

What stands out to you in this chorus? I'm going to try something new today. Take a piece of paper and pen or open a document/note. Now think about and write down your answer and your thoughts on that answer before I continue.

Did you get it? Great! So here were my thoughts.

The part that really stood out to me:

 "All this work but Lord, you don't need us."

God didn't sacrifice his son because he needed us.
Jesus didn't give up his life on the cross because he needed us.

He did it all because he WANTED us.

He wanted to save us, not for personal gain but that his love for us was so strong he wanted to take our place. He didn't want to stand and let us die and be apart from Him forever.

If you knew a friend, spouse, family, was about to die, one you were close to and truly loved with all your heart, would you stand by and watch or would you be thinking and willing to give up your life for their's? Jesus is that one true best friend!

Heroes sacrifice their lives for ours, right? Like Captain America! Okay, okay, we'll be a little more realistic. Firefighters, police men, soldiers! Well, Jesus is that hero we all long so desperately for in our lives. Whether its because you're going through hard times or maybe everything is fine but you're lonely though your standing in a crowded room. Maybe you grew up without that hero figure to look up to, but guess what? Just look up.

Fiddler On The Roof

I had never heard of "Fiddler on the Roof" till a friend of mine on the west coast highly suggested I watch it. So, for a while I put it off cause it was a 3 hour movie and I wanted to be able to watch it without a bunch of interruptions. One Wednesday afternoon when I had nothing else to do and it was quiet in the house, I turned it on and from the moment it began I fell in love the fiddler on the roof!

Movie Review

This is Norman Jewison's adaptation of the long-running Broadway musical set in the Ukranian ghetto village of Anatevka. The poor milkman, Tevye, is tested by poverty, the romantic entanglements of his five daughters, and prejudicial attitudes of non-Jews.
Throughout the movie Tevye talks too God during his many trials. 

One of my favorite songs in the beginning is "If I were a rich man". I've been dancing, humming, and singing "Yubby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dum" for two weeks straight! Its catchy, how can it not get stuck in your head? Try singing it...it's stuck in your head now, isn't it? Hahaha! I told you. Chaim Topol, I can't see anyone else ever doing a better job than him (no offence to other actors, I'm sure you're great!), he's just classic! His voice has this rustic fatherly charm to it as well that I can't get enough of--no that is not weird! Right?

Music isn't the only good thing about this movie (there's a lot, but we'll get to all those in a moment) the first scene that made me really want to just get up and dance along was during "To Life". There was so much light and happiness, you couldn't help but want to join in. And when the Tevye and the non-Jews danced together, it just made you want to leap! It felt like having communion (they were drinking though, weren't they? haha!) with someone you thought hated each the other coming together under an umbrella of joy. Who wouldn't be glad that someone's daughter is getting married? Even the poor Tailor, once he stood up for Tzeitel's hand in marriage, couldn't contain his joy in "Miracle of Miracles". It made me feel like I was jumping on clouds in springtime!

Lastly, my favorite part was the wedding dances! Come on, how can you not? I won't spoil it for those of you who haven't had the pleasure of seeing it, but to those who have I about jumped out of the chair and started kicking my heels and clapping along!

There's biblical lessons and eye openers and things to make you think about as well. This movie made me think a lot about my own dad. Tevye reminds me so much, to include having to deal with a house full of women! Haha. But like Tevye, he always turns and talks to God. What did you take away from this movie?

This is a beautiful poem/song with a wonderful flow of emotion. Showing that love can wait, no need to rush. In God's timing and in patience it will find you. I was truly awed after reading this. What a wonderful piece of writing. I hope Kim keeps writing more like this in the future.
